Melon Grasslands
The print pattern of this piece traces its origins back to a spring day in 2019, near the Melon Grassland in the Mentougou district of Beijing, beside a wild pond that emerged with the season. Spring in Beijing is often cloaked in shades of gray and brown, but on a walk, we chanced upon a small pool, its surface covered in a thin layer of moss, reminiscent of stalactites, cradling the decayed branches of the previous winter within its grasp.
This ephemeral ecosystem formed a visual harmony that we've incorporated into our designs across several seasons. The fabric of this dress is inspired by the silk drapes from the "One Day Nature" outdoor exhibition, where images drawn from the natural world are woven into fabric, then returned to nature, and finally crafted into clothing that embraces the human form. It's a testament to the cycle of energy, a dialogue between nature and us.
